Spain-Mallorca

Mallorca

m mallorca

Mallorca is the main island of the five comprising the Balaeric archipelago. It is part of Spain and is situated in the Meditteranean sea, approximately 100 miles southeast of Barcelona and the South of France. The size of the island is approximately 50 miles from North to South. Its topography includes high dramatic mountains, many orchard valleys and agricultural farmlands. The coastline is very interesting because of its variety, which includes long sandy beaches, steep rocky cliffs, and many picturesque coves.

The island has a resident population of about 750,000 people which is augmented during the tourist season to approximately 2.5 million. The capital city is Palma which enjoys a very international atmosphere.

Temperatures in the summer average about 78°F and in the winter 57°F making it an ideal climate. Sunshine predominates and the average rainfall is only 30 to 40 days per year.

There are many unusually attractive features of this island, the main one being the extremely clear clean sea with no tides which make it very safe for all water activities, also both the air you breathe and the sea are practically pollution free.

Being an island Mallorca has a very low crime rate. The people are friendly and there are no racial problems. The official language is Spanish, although English, German and French are also widely used.

Palma

This vibrant, Mallorquin City is full of stunning architecture and is great for shopping. Both the impressive Cathedral and the Bellver castle are well worth a visit. The warm climate of Palma makes it a popular destination all year round. You can spend time on one of the beaches getting a tan, or strolling by the waterfront with its colourful fishing boats bobbing alongside luxurious yachts. The waterfront is dominated by the spectacular Gothic cathedral restored in 1902 by Antoni Gaudi, the famous and controversial Catalunyan architect.

Puerto Pollensa

pollensa

Originally a fishing village Puerto Pollensa retains the time old tradition of the evening paseo or stroll. On warm, balmy evenings everyone wanders up and down between the marina where the yachts are moored, past the pavement cafes and along the celebrated Pine Walk.
